Academic website Syndicate Theology recently hosted a symposium to discuss Director of the Centre for the Social-Scientific Study of the Bible at St Mary’s University, Twickenham Prof Chris Keith’s new book.
The book entitled Jesus Against the Scribal Elite: The Origins of the Conflict was published in 2014. Prof Keith argues that in addition to concerns over what Jesus taught and perhaps even how he taught, a crucial aspect of his rising conflict with the scribal elite concerned his very status as a teacher.
The symposium was edited by Chris Tilling, Senior Lecturer in New Testament Studies at St Mellitus College, and saw contributions from academics Christopher Skinner, Tobias Hägerland, Dagmar Winter, and Jason Lamoreaux.
Prof Chris Keith said of the symposium, “I was tremendously honoured to have my work featured in a Syndicate symposium. The interaction with other scholars, both complements and criticisms, were beneficial as I continue to think about this fascinating aspect of the life of Jesus of Nazareth.”
