St Mary's MSc Applied Sport Psychology Accredited by British Psychology Society

The MSc Applied Sport Psychology at St Mary’s University, Twickenham has become the second psychology masters programme in London to be given the stamp of approval by the British Psychological Society (BPS). The programme’s academics spent two years getting every aspect of the masters course, and in some instances their own qualifications, to the required standard so as to meet the nine benchmarks set by BPS, which cover areas including:
  • Application and entry
  • Programme content
  • Ethical working
  • Staffing
On Tuesday 3rd May, Programme Director Dr Stacy Winter and lecturers Dr Ross Wadey and Dr Brian Hemmings were delighted to be informed by the BPS that the psychology programme had become the second in London and the 18th in the UK to be accredited by the BPS. Dr Winter said, “The accreditation through partnership is a huge achievement for us, particularly as the discipline has become a protected and legislated field of study.” St Mary’s BSc Psychology degree is also accredited by the BPS, which means students can feel confident that they can pursue a recognised undergraduate and postgraduate degree at the University, before progressing onto the BPS training pathway, should they wish to become an accredited psychologist. Dr Winter and colleagues now look forward to welcoming BPS personnel into St Mary’s for a visit next year.
