Blog: A Client's Perspective of St Mary's Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Services

Physiotherapist and Clinical Manager, Rory Brown, has been treating Naomi, a highly successful hockey player, since September 2015 at St Mary's University, Twickenham. Here we take a look at Naomi’s journey. Naomi damaged her knee playing hockey last summer. “I was training at PowerHouse St Kilda HC in Melbourne where, as I went to change direction, my knee gave way and I felt a snap in my right knee leaving me in excruciating pain.” Unfortunately for Naomi she had fully ruptured the ACL in her right knee and had a partial tear of the meniscus. Following surgery Naomi came to the Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation service at St Mary’s, Twickenham. “The rehab services at St Mary’s had been referred by my surgeon and as I am a first year student living here on campus, it was a convenient location for me.” Having worked hard with the physio team on campus, Naomi has made steady progress. “By combining the wide range of exercises I have been given by my Physiotherapist with the facilities here at the university, I am slowly working my way back to full fitness.” As for the future Naomi is planning a return to competitive sport. “When I have completed my rehab, I aim to play back at premier league standard in hockey and play regular sport without having concerns about my injury.” At St Mary’s, we work closely with many surgeons to ensure a successful recovery for a complete range of patients, from those having joint replacements to maintaining independence and mobility, to those returning to physical work or high level sport.
