Former Government Minister One of Nine New Appointments at St Mary's

St Mary’s University, Twickenham, has appointed a number of high profile Visiting Professors and Senior Fellows to the School of Management and Social Sciences (MSS). They include former government minister, Mark Hoban; Senior Lecturer at the University of Kent, Dr Adrian Pabst; and Fr Christopher Jamison, Director of the National Office of Vocation at the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales. Hoban, Pabst and Jamison have been appointed to contribute their experience to the School’s business management programmes in areas such as professionalism, regulation and business ethics. They will also assist with the development of the public engagement of the School and work in collaboration with other schools and disciplines. Francis Campbell, Vice-Chancellor of St Mary’s , said, “Our new appointments bring a wealth of knowledge and experience and will make a very valuable contribution to life at St Mary’s. Most importantly, they will give our University a strong voice in the public debate and on ethics and business. Mark Hoban is a former government minister and is currently Chairman of Flood Re, a joint industry and government sponsored scheme to enable affordable flood cover for those households at the highest risk of flooding. Hoban was formerly the Member of Parliament for Fareham and stood down at the 2015 General Election. During his time as a Member of Parliament he served as Minister of State for Employment and Financial Secretary to the Treasury. In his Treasury role he had responsibility for financial services policy, including financial services and banking reform, and financial stability. Dr Adrian Pabst is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Kent, having joined the University in 2009. In 2012 he published a book entitled ‘Metaphysics: The Creation of Hierarchy’, and the previous year he published ‘The Crisis of Global Capitalism’. An expert in the role of ethics and religion in politics, his current research focus involves post-liberal politics. Dr Pabst writes regularly for a number of papers including the Guardian, The Huffington Post, and the International Herald Tribune. Fr Christopher Jamison OSB has a strong voice in debates surrounding ethics and professionalism in banking. He co-authored a report Integrity in Practice: A Guide for Financial Services, was an adviser to the Independent Banking Commission chaired by David Davis MP and is currently an adviser to New City Agenda http://newcityagenda.co.uk a think-tank that offers a critique of the financial services industry. He is currently Director of the Catholic Church’s National Office for Vocation in England and Wales. He appears regularly in the media and is the author of Finding Sanctuary: Monastic steps for Everyday Life and Finding Happiness: Monastic Steps for a Fulfilling Life as well as contributing to many others.
