A group of students on the LLB Law programme at St Mary’s University, Twickenham recently visited the famous Lloyd's of London building in the heart of the financial district for a guided tour. The trip was organised by Law lecturer Lloyd Gash, and the tour was given by James Bromiley-Davis of Lloyd’s. James gave the students some insight into what life is like on the underwriting floor and details of some of the historic cases surrounding insurance risk. It was fascinating to see some of the artefacts recovered from sunken vessels, including trinkets from the Napoleonic fleet, and the stunning Lutine Bell sitting proudly in the heart of the building. Students taking Insurance Law as a final year module had the opportunity to see for themselves the operations of this unique and important institution, to enrich their studies of the subject. Lloyd Gash, who convenes the Insurance Law module, commented that, “This was an enjoyable and illuminating tour of perhaps the most significant institution within the insurance sector. The students and I took a great deal from the day, and thanks go to James for being such a wonderful host and sharing his wealth of knowledge with us. We very much hope to return next year.”
