On Wednesday 9th March St Mary’s University, Twickenham won this year’s West London Varsity competition over local rivals Brunel University.
The competition, which has been running for several years, sees students from the two universities compete against each other in a series of sporting competitions. This year’s competition finished 16-13, bringing the trophy back to St Mary’s after last year’s narrow loss at Brunel.
Held at various locations across St Mary’s Strawberry Hill and Teddington Lock campuses, teams joined together to represent both institutions in sports including weightlifting, athletics, rugby, football, indoor rowing, tennis, netball, basketball, cricket, and hockey, amongst many others.
St Mary’s Students' Union Vice President Sports and Societies Hester Benham said, “It was a brilliant day and ran really smoothly! I can’t thank all the staff, volunteers, competitors and supporters enough for making the day such a success… and we got the win!!!!”
