As part of the annual Raising and Giving (RAG) Week at St Mary’s University, Twickenham, the Women’s Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) Team hosted a 24-hour Sportsathon.
The team hosted hourly sports events, including Zumba, Orienteering, Irish Dancing, Basketball, Rugby, Pilates, and Kickboxing, before finishing with a cheerleading session and performance, raising £235 for RAG week
This year St Mary’s Students’ Union (SMSU) has raised almost £5000 through RAG Week. The funds raised will be split between three charities; Climb4Clare, who provide support for children that are experiencing the impact of a family member’s cancer diagnosis, Molly’s Smile Fund, who raise funds towards enhancing critical care at St George’s Hospital General Intensive Care Unit and HistioUK, who fund research into hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis, and the University’s Charity Strawberry Hill Overseas Community Concern (SHOCC), who raise funds for projects that challenge deprivation in the UK and abroad.
SMSU President Zander Lavall said, “The effort put in by the Women’s GAA team is astounding, this year we’ve raised a lot for the three charities we’re supporting and we hope that they can continue with their fantastic work.”
