St Mary’s Students take part in Part-time Work and Volunteering Fair

The Careers Service at St Marys University, Twickenham, started its event season on Tuesday 10 October, with the Part-time Work and Volunteering Fair.

The fair is designed to give students the opportunity to gain relevant, valuable work experience during their degree. Welcoming 31 organisations from a range of sectors, and over 200 enthusiastic students from all degree programmes, it was a successful day for employability, with a number of students securing job interviews, with a great buzz amongst those attending there was also the opportunity for students to take part in competitions, all fuelled by free pizza.

The Careers Service encourages students to consider their career journey and think about what they should be doing before they graduate. During the event, students were able to speak to a Careers Consultant to help them understand how to make the most of the opportunities available, with the St Mary’s team also on hand during the event to offer advice and guidance on which organisations would best suit the opportunities students were searching for.

A third-year Nutrition student said they would recommend the fair to a friend as there were, “plenty of opportunities available to suit everyone and to gain experience.” One third-year Psychology student added, “Everyone was really helpful, very informative and found opportunities directly relating to my career.”

Housing for Women, one of the organisations recruiting at the fair commented, “This has been a very useful event for us. We have had more than 20 people who have registered their interest in volunteering with us. Thanks for inviting us!”
