Distinguished speakers confirmed for Warwick University Summer School, in collaboration with St Mary's

St Mary’s University, Twickenham is pleased to announce that this year it is collaborating with the University of Warwick to bring the prestigious Warwick University Summer School to St Mary’s Strawberry Hill campus. Places are available for up to 200 students for a three-week Summer School starting in July. This year a Nobel Prize winner, former Cabinet Minister and the Bank of England’s Chief Economist will contribute to the programme. The 2016 Summer School saw over 180 students take part, from 38 different countries. 

The Summer School will offer a range of courses, from English to Economics; and also a ‘Principles of Economics’ course for those without any economics knowledge. Lecturers from St Mary’s will be offering a course on ‘Public Policy and Economics’, which will involve three field trips, including a tour of the Bank of England followed by a lecture by

Lecturers from St Mary’s will be offering a course on ‘Public Policy and Economics’, which will involve three field trips, including a tour of the Bank of England followed by a lecture by Andy Haldane, the Bank’s Chief Economist.

The Summer School will also provide a programme of talks and debates with influential guest speakers including George Akerlof, the winner of the 2001 Nobel Memorial Prize for Economic Science and Rt Hon Sir Vince Cable, former Secretary of State for Business and a Visiting Lecturer at St Mary’s. As well as providing high calibre teaching, the Summer School will also have a packed social programme.

This will include cultural excursions to London, where students can visit the London Eye and Parliament, as well as to Oxford and Brighton. Students will have free time to study, but also to take part in a wide variety of activities within the University’s campus, including quizzes, karaoke, and many sports activities taking place at the University’s world-class sports facilities.
