A current student and two alumnae from St Mary’s University, Twickenham were selected for the England Women’s Rugby 7s team that finished as runners up in the Challenge Trophy at the Las Vegas 7s earlier in March.

Final year Physical and Sport Education (PSE) student Lotte Clapp joined alumnae Alice Richardson-Watmore and Lauren Cattell as a part of the England HSBC World 7s series team. Having graduated from St Mary’s in 2009, Alice represented Team GB Rugby 7s Team at the Rio Olympic Games, reaching the semi-finals, and now holds 36 international caps for England.

Sport Science graduate Lauren and Lotte meanwhile are in their debut 7s season, having represented England Women’s full senior squad at the 2016 Six Nations.

In Las Vegas both Lauren and Alice scored tries in the trophy semi-final, with Alice scoring three conversions in the 45-7 win over Argentina. The team progressed to the Challenge Trophy final, finishing as runners up to Spain.

At St Mary’s there are a variety of sports scholarships available to students from a range of sporting backgrounds, including Lotte and Olympic medallist Joshua Buatsi. Find out more about sports scholarships at St Mary’s on our website.
