St Mary's University, Twickenham Philosopher Dr Yasemin J Erden has been elected to the Royal Institute of Philosophy's (RIP) Council.
Dr Erden's longstanding championing of the RIP lecture series at St Mary's has promoted philosophy and public reasoning beyond the academy. This has fostered strong links with the local community and beyond.
The Institute’s aims are: ‘To organise and promote by teaching, discussion and research the advancement of Philosophical Studies’ and in particular ‘to provide for all classes and denominations, without any distinction whatsoever, opportunities and encouragement’. This election is welcome recognition of Dr Erden's contribution to philosophy, and to the tenets of the institute's mission.
She joins world-leading philosophers on the council, including Professor Margaret Boden, Professor Alexander Bird, and Dr Beth Lord.
The RIP has been in existence since the 1920s, gaining the appelation 'royal' in 1947, having continued its activities throughout the war.
