St Mary’s International Team Visit Australia to Develop Partnerships

Representatives from the Global Engagement team at St Mary’s University, Twickenham recently visited Australia for a wide-ranging series of discussions, that included meetings to strengthen partnerships with Australian universities and private academic institutions, and to promote St Mary’s University to Australian students.

InSydney, Pro Vice-Chancellor for Global Engagement Prof John Brewer and Director of International Joe Docherty OBE visited the University of Notre Dame. During their visit they met with their local counterparts, where they were able to discuss potential areas of collaboration and tour the campus. Prof Brewer also signed an extension of St Mary’s existing partnership for a further two years. Under the agreement, both universities will continue to exchange students at the undergraduate level for one to two semesters of study per year.

They also visited the Sydney campus of the Australian Catholic University (ACU). During the day they were able to meet with representatives of ACU’s Business and Law. Schoolthe ACU School of Management of Social Science, and the ACU School of Exercise Science. St Mary’s University and ACU have an active student exchange programme and over the years both institutions have hosted each other’s students.

Speaking of the trip Prof John Brewer said, “It was a great opportunity to renew and strengthen our partnerships with universities in Australia. We also got to meet with lots of young adults and tell them why St Mary’s should be the next step for them in their education journey. We already welcome a lot of Australian students on campus and hopefully we will see more in the coming years.”
