Students and academics from the Sports Coaching Science undergraduate and foundation programmes at St Mary’s University, Twickenham visited St George’s Park, the English Football Association’s (FA) performance centre at the end of February.
During the visit, students toured the facilities at St George’s Park with the FA, Perform, and Graham Robb Associates. The group were able to visit the bespoke sport science labs and the rehabilitation suite used by England Football Teams.
The students were also able to view the replica Wembley changing rooms and hybrid pitches before undertaking practical sessions on the latest FIFA warm up protocols and the team building exercises used by the England Football Teams. They also discovered the latest hydrotherapy technologies used for recovery and rehabilitation.
Speaking of the visit Programme Director for Sports Coaching Science Dr Abbe Brady said, “Visits like these are a core part of the Sports Coaching degree programmes. Learning how the academic and practical skills can be applied to a professional environment is fundamental to our students’ success.”
