Athletes and alumni of St Mary’s University, Twickenham had success at two major indoor competitions. At the Birmingham Indoor Grand Prix, seven Endurance Performance and Coaching Centre (EPACC) athletes competed across six events.
Alumnus Sir Mo Farah, who attended a ceremony to name the St Mary’s athletics track in his honour last week, won the Men’s 5000m in what was his last indoor athletics track competition. EPACC Athlete Nick Goolab also competed, only racing to 3000m to try to achieve the qualifying time for the European Indoor Championships, falling just short by 0.82 seconds.
Elsewhere, Steph Twell competed in the Women’s 3000m, finishing in 10th place in a time of 8:45.81, setting a new personal best. 2012 Olympian Andrew Osagie competed in the Men’s 800m, finishing in sixth place in his second race this year.
Elsewhere at the British University and College Sport (BUCS) National Championships, EPACC athlete Rebecca Murray won Gold in the Women’s 3000m. Sports Scholar Adeline Gouenon won Silver in the Women’s 60m sprint and second year student Max Wharton won Bronze in the Men’s 800m.
EPACC Coordinator Craig Winrow said, “We saw some strong results from our athletes over the weekend. I’m looking forward to watching them develop over the coming months as we look ahead to the World Championships in London.”
