Students and Endurance Performance and Coaching Centre (EPACC) athletes from St Mary’s University, Twickenham earned four victories and 11 top three finishes at athletics meets over the weekend.
There were victories for St Mary’s in both the Men’s and Women’s Vitality London 10,000m on Bank Holiday Monday with EPACC athlete and four-time Olympic Champion Sir Mo Farah and fellow EPACC athlete Steph Twell winning Gold in their respective races.
In the Women’s race, EPACC athlete Jo Pavey picked up Bronze while alumna Lily Partridge came fourth and EPACC athlete Rebecca Murray fifth, meaning St Mary’s took four of the top five spaces in the race while the Men’s event saw sport scholar Ellis Cross finish seventh and student Corey De’Ath 20th.
In the Vitality Westminster Mile on Sunday, alumni Charlie Grice and Elliot Giles won Silver and Bronze respectively in the Men’s race while EPACC athlete Jake Wightman came fifth and scholar Sean Molloy ninth.
In the Women’s event EPACC athlete Sarah Astin finished 11th while students Lilly Coward and Georgie Hartigan came 12th and 15th respectively.
Elsewhere, in Saturday’s Watford BMC Grand Prix, EPACC athlete Zak Curran posted a Seasonal Best (SB) of 1:47.86 in the Men’s 800m A race to win with scholar Canaan Solomon finishing just under a second behind to finish fourth.
There was also a victory for scholar Emily Hosker-Thornhill in the Women’s 5000m A race, following her win at the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) 10,000m Championships last month - in the same race Sarah Astin finished ninth.
Student Max Wharton posted a SB of 1:49.32 to finish second in the Men’s 800m B race, EPACC athlete Bradley Goater earned a Personal Best (PB) of 13:58.77 in the Men’s 5000m A race to come third while Lilly Coward also finished third in the Women’s 1500m B race after posting a SB of 4:22.66.
EPACC athlete Jonny Hay was the final St Mary’s representative to earn a top three finish as he came third in the Men’s 1500m A race, which also saw student. Adam Moore end up in 15th while EPACC athlete Ciara Everard finished sixth in the Women’s 800m A race.
Finally, in the IFAM Oordegem in Belgium on Saturday, scholar Emile Cairess followed up his Gold at the BUCS Outdoor Track and Field Championships earlier this month with a PB in the Men’s 5000m B race.
