Students and Education Performance and Coaching Centre (EPACC) athletes from St Mary’s University, Twickenham earned two victories, seven podium finishes and one European qualifying standard at three athletic meets over the weekend.
St Mary’s had extensive representation at the England Athletics U20/U23 Track & Field Championships in Bedford. There were four students in the Men’s U23 5000m, with sport scholar Emile Cairess following up his Gold medal in the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) Outdoor Championships in the Men’s 5000m with another first place finish while second and third year students Luke Prior, Corey De’Ath and Tom Butler finished sixth, seventh and eighth respectively.
Scholar Emily Moyes also won Gold in the Women’s U23 5000m after she retained her title in May’s BUCS outdoors, the race also saw student Emma Bond come ninth. In the Men’s U23 800m scholar Canaan Solomon continued his impressive year with a Bronze while student Max Wharton narrowly missed out on a medal, finishing fourth.
There was also a Bronze for third year student Lilly Coward in the Women’s U23 1500m which saw EPACC athlete Georgie Hartigan finish fifth and student Stevie Lawrence come 10th.
Also in the championships, first year student Tom Randolph came fifth in the Men’s U20 800m, scholar Ellis Cross finished ninth in the Men’s U23 1500m and Max Jones also came ninth in the Men’s U20 1500m.
Elsewhere, three EPACC athletes competed in the European Athletics Classics Meeting in Marseille. Andrew Osagie was second in the Men’s 800m clocking another 1:45 time, Jake Wightman third in the Men’s 1500m while Steph Twell finished fourth in the Women’s 5000m.
Another St Mary’s EPACC athlete, Adelle Tracey, was very impressive at the Internationales Soundtrack-Meeting in Tubingen in Germany, finishing second in a season’s best time and European Qualifying Standard of 2:00.91.
