A student of the Law LLB programme at St Mary’s University, Twickenham has been awarded £500 for achieving the degree’s highest grade in 2018.
Leo Licheri-Hood, who earned First Class Honours, was given the Morrisons’ Solicitors Award by partner of the local practice’s Corporate and Commercial Department, John Andrews.
Leo, who is now taking the Legal Practice course before commencing a training contract with a city law firm, was also presented with a certificate by Lecturer at St Mary’s Dr Rebecca Smith, for achieving the top Law Research project mark.
St Mary’s Law Programme Director Jenny Henry, commented, “We are delighted that Morrisons are such a support to St Mary’s students in terms of their annual prize and work experience opportunities. Leo had in fact carried out work experience at Morrisons in the past and this will no doubt, have helped develop both his employability skills and future career focus.
“The connection between current practitioners and our students, potential practitioners of the future, is a key part of the success of both legal education and the wider legal profession.”
Rebecca Smith added, “Leo’s dissertation offered a superbly researched historical and comparative analysis of the doctrine of good faith in commercial contract law, and put forward a sustained jurisprudential rebuttal of laissez-faire individualism in English contract law in favour of the inclusion of the moral virtues of honesty, fair dealing and reasonableness.
“This was one of the most ambitious and well-executed research projects I have had the pleasure of supervising in my time at St Marys, and wish to congratulate Leo on managing to marry together a cutting-edge analysis of a pressing commercial legal issue with a mastery of its doctrinal, historical, and normative context.”
