St Mary’s University, Twickenham has launched a partnership with sports media company Perform to offer exclusive new graduate internships for students.
The new scheme, which was established in consultation with Programme Director of the Sports Journalism MA at St Mary’s Dr Daragh Minogue, will see two of the course’s students undertake three month placements at Perform.
Adam Samuel and Matt Horsman, who was recently nominated for the Best Multimedia Journalism Story at this year’s Student Press Awards, will take on the paid internships with monthly rotations in the company’s editorial, data and video teams.
The internships will give Adam and Matt an insight into Perform’s business and includes two months at the company’s Feltham HQ and one month in Leeds. The scheme comes after Adam completed a recent work placement at the Victoria Derbyshire Show and Matt, alongside his studies, has been working for Tongue Tied Media and Hampton & Richmond Borough Football Club.
Last year, Perform employed three St Mary’s Sports Journalism MA students straight from graduation, with Ross Champion becoming Assistant Producer at the company’s HQ and Mats Fredrix and Chris Pepper working for Perform’s sports streaming service.
Daragh said, “We’re excited to be working with Perform because, despite being a locally based company, they have a huge global reach. The partnership has been developed partly because they have seen the calibre of students from our Sports Journalism MA and I think the internship programme will grow in the years to come.
“I expect Adam and Matt to do very well at Perform. Both are hard-working talented sports journalists with great work experience under their belt already."
Perform has also offered summer work placements to Louis Olvera and Matt Bowers, two students on the International Sports Journalism MA.
