St Mary’s Partnership with The Richmond Literature Festival

St Mary’s University, Twickenham will be working in partnership with the Richmond Literature Festival to both host and provide workshops on writing and books for children, families and adults at The Exchange, Twickenham.

This November will see the celebration of books and writing with the return of the Richmond Literature Festival, taking place in the University’s local area. This includes workshops covering a variety of genres, welcoming some of the county’s most exciting and accredited authors.

This year’s diverse line up features many interesting and popular voices. Journalist Angela Saini will be discussing her book ‘Inferior’ on the 2nd November, which focuses on tradiational societal beliefs about women, and the new research that is changing these beliefs.

On the 8th November, humanitarian Terry Waite will discuss his recent book ‘Solitude’. Focusing on the phenomenon of Solitude, Waite provides a compelling position after his capitivity of nearly five years in Beirut.

In addition, historian Dan Snow will offer an insight to our exciting world from a historical standpoint on the 22nd November.On This Day in History’ will bring to life a key event that happened on each day of the year, with the aim of showing how each event offers a different and unexpected insight into our past.

St Mary’s will supply workshops on the 5th & 19th of November at The Exchange. Monday 5th November will focus on ‘Writing Genre Fiction’ led by Senior Lecturer Russell Schechter from the University. This workshop will explore the basic issues associated with popular genre’s including crime, horror, fantasy and science fiction.

Monday 19th November will focus on ‘Getting into Novel-Writing’ led by Johnathan Gibbs, Programme Director for the MA Creative Writing: First Novel at St Mary’s. This workshop will explore the creation of the novel, and the crucial step of putting pen to paper. This workshop will be great for those with an idea for a novel.

The Exchange is a newly built venue that provides a space for creativity and learning for both St Mary’s students and the wider community in the heart of Twickenham, London. This makes The Exchange a great place to host divisions of the Richmond Literature Festival this year.
