St Mary’s University, Twickenham is to offer external drama auditions to aspiring Acting BA students for the first time.
Drama St Mary’s, who are one of the few vocational Actor training institutions to offer free auditions, is opening try-outs in Newcastle to seek out acting talent in the North-East of England.
It is the first time Drama St Mary’s has branched out its auditions and the University is hoping to offer more in the near future.
St Mary’s is opening the auditions in collaboration with partner Academy of Live & Recorded Arts (ALRA), a conservatoire drama school based in both London and Wigan whose alumni include Miranda Hart and Denise Gough. The University work closely with ALRA and validate their degrees.
The auditions will take place at Newcastle College on Tuesday 3rd April from 10am-5pm and are open to everyone. Students can sign up for an audition by emailing patsy.gilbert@stmarys.ac.uk or, if applying for ALRA or both institutions, through the ALRA website.
Anyone wishing to apply to St Mary’s who has not yet submitted a UCAS application can still attend the audition and, if successful, will be supported by the University in their application.
Academic Director for Drama at St Mary’s Patsy Gilbert, said, “With Actor training and its accessibility for young actors of all backgrounds being talked about so much in the media recently, these auditions show our commitment to seeking out talent and ambition around the country and giving advice to young aspiring performers. This is also an exciting new development in our relationship with ALRA who have lead the way in this area for some time.”
Principal of ALRA Adrian Hall, said, “We are pleased that St Mary’s drama department can join us at the outreach audition in Newcastle to provide a wider opportunity for the talented young people of the area.’’
