Richmond Borough’s new theatre and community building, which is operated and managed by St Mary’s University, Twickenham, has had a successful first six months.
Since the launch of The Exchange, situated directly opposite Twickenham Railway Station, the venue has played host to events by historian David Starkey, scientists Helen Czerski and Robert Winston, author Kathy Lette and Jason Manford and his comedy club, amongst many others. It has already established a diverse programme of both entertaining and thought-provoking events.
The Exchange is building on its start by announcing some great headline names for the autumn season including the inimitable Ruby Wax (27th September), broadcaster and former politician Michael Portillo (20th October), comedian Robin Ince (18th October), guitarist Martin Simpson (11th October) and TV star Rory Bremner, (21st November) who will be performing alongside fellow impressionist Jan Ravens.
It also has a growing theatre programme with two shows by Hammersmith-based Turtle Key Arts and a children’s show by local theatre company Make, Mend and Do during the October half-term, while the venue also has regular film showings presented by Richmond Film Society and Twickenham Cinema Club.
Creative Director at The Exchange Stuart Hobday, said, “The Exchange is developing nicely as a theatre and as a community resource. We have had a great reception to the shows we have done so far and this autumn programme sees us attracting a great line up of well-known performers and a developing programme of theatre and film. In the background we are also hosting regular showcases of local young people in performing and visual arts as well as hosting many workshops and meetings in our studio rooms. “
