The event, which took place as part of the 50th -anniversary celebrations of the Commonwealth Youth Council, aimed to recognisze and celebrate the vital contributions of youth to global affairs. The discussion also highlighted the impactful work of the Commonwealth Youth Programme and marked the 10th anniversary of the Commonwealth Youth Council.

A diverse range of speakers from across the Commonwealth addressed the participants, underscoring the importance of youth engagement in shaping the future of global policies and initiatives. The roundtable provided a platform for young leaders and scholars to engage with policymakers and contribute to the ongoing dialogue on issues affecting youth and their role in international relations.

Speaking about the event, Nelly said, “I am currently a Commonwealth Shared Scholar, pursuing a master’s degree in Diplomacy and International Relations at St. Mary's University. My department has a strong academic focus on the Commonwealth as an international organisation, and I have developed a keen interest in this area through their inspiration.

Attending the International Youth Day event was an incredible opportunity to connect with inspiring young people within the Commonwealth, all of whom are doing impactful work to promote democracy and development. As a scholar, I am deeply committed to supporting these ideals and it was a fulfilling way to be reminded of the uniqueness of the Commonwealth and how I can contribute.”
