St Mary’s University alumnus, Paul Clement, was appointed Brazil’s assistant coach by Carlo Ancelotti ahead of the national side’s 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign.

Paul Clement, who studied Sports Science at St Mary’s, joined Brazil in May 2025 following the appointment of long-time collaborator Carlo Ancelotti as head coach.

The pair previously worked together at top European clubs including Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich.

In 2015, Clement made his managerial debut for Derby County. He has since held the manager position at a number of clubs including Swansea City, Reading, and Cercle Brugge.

Brazil’s 2026 World Cup campaign saw them finish top of their group with two wins and a draw, before beating Japan 2-1 in the Round of 32.

The team were knocked out by Norway in the Round of 16, with the final score 1-2 to the Norwegian side.
