Free primary education resources developed by St Mary’s University and the Catholic Diocese of Arundel and Brighton Education Service have received endorsement by the Catholic Education Service (CES), and will now carry the Religious Education Directory logo.
Day by Day, which is free to use and a valuable resource for teaching Religious Education in schools, had already been granted Canonical approval and given permission to publish by the diocese of Arundel and Brighton. The artwork used within the materials are by Elizabeth Wang.
The project started in the diocese in September 2022, and has continued to roll out over two years on the St Mary’s website. It includes resources across all primary year groups supporting and enriching the delivery of the Religious Education Directory (RED).
Both Sarah Green (Senior Lecturer) and Cindy Harper (Senior Lecturer) from the School of Education at St Mary’s University have worked closely with the diocese throughout the project.
Speaking on the resources Cindy said, “The Arundel and Brighton resources are of an exceptionally high quality and provide teachers with a rich, engaging and accessible approach to teaching Religious Education. The inclusion of carefully selected and relevant artwork helps to deepen pupils’ understanding and reflection, while the clear learning objectives ensure progression and purpose throughout each lesson. The activities are creative, interactive, and thoughtfully designed to promote meaningful discussion, critical thinking, and spiritual development among learners.
“The CES Seal of Approval is particularly significant, as it gives schools and teachers confidence that the materials are both educationally rigorous and theologically sound for teaching the RED. These materials, as well as the training that the diocese offers, are an excellent example of how RE can be engaging, relevant, and inspiring for pupils and teachers alike.”
