St Mary’s University, London students Saleh Faghihi and Megan Webley have won Gold medals at the BUCS Weightlifting and Para Powerlifting Championships 2026.

Saleh, a Sports Scholar at St Mary’s, came first place in the men’s 65kg category with 198 points in total. Saleh previously took home a Gold medal in the 2025 BUCS Championships, having only started the sport a year prior.

Sports Nutrition MSc student Megan took first place in the women’s 63kg category with 169 points.

Speaking on this achievement Megan said, “It was great to bring home gold for St Mary’s at BUCS 2026. A great day representing the university during my master’s degree and coming away with a win. I started weightlifting during my undergraduate degree and didn’t expect to be still competing six years later. I’m very grateful for Shaun Joffe’s support on the day.”

British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) is the national body for delivering competitive higher education sport in the UK. Its aim is to work with member institutions to get more students active, through traditional competitive sport and providing physical activity opportunities.
