How to make the most of an open day at St Mary’s

Heading to lots of university open days? Or maybe your first one is coming up! It’s exciting – and sometimes it can also feel a bit overwhelming. There’s so much to see, so many people to talk to, and only a few hours to fit it all in. Here’s how you can walk away feeling confident, not confused.

Do a little research

Check the schedule in advance and highlight the talks, tours and subject session you really don’t want to miss. Having a rough plan will help you stay on track on the day.

Get hands-on

Don’t just stick to the information stands. Sit in on a subject talk, join a campus tour, or try out a workshop. These will give you a real insight into what it might be like to study at St Mary’s.

Have a chat

Take the chance to speak directly with lecturers, support staff and current students. Find out about life at St Mary’s and ask about their experiences. This is where you’ll get the information that isn’t in the prospectus.

Explore the vibe

Pay attention to how the campus feels. Could you see yourself living in the accommodation? Does the library and other study spaces suit your style? What’s the surrounding area like? Trust your instincts – the atmosphere matters.

Take notes (and photos)

When you visit more than one university, details can blur. Jot down key points and snap a few photos to help you compare later.

Remember, Open Days are not just about information gathering. It’s also finding out what University is the best fit for you and asking yourself ‘can I picture myself here?’
