Good sports management is nothing without good sports marketing – someone must bring in the participants and the crowds!

Why study Sports Management and Marketing?

This degree is ideal for you if your interest in sports management is mainly related to marketing. Sport marketing is a vibrant part of the sports industry and is a popular career choice for entrants into the sports industry.

If you have studied any aspects of sports or marketing this degree will help you advance your knowledge. Alternatively, if you are new to this area through your interest in sport, we have designed this Sports Management and Marketing degree to allow you to get into the subject matter quickly.

The sports business is truly global. It offers excellent opportunities for graduates to work internationally. Research conducted by Sport England shows that over 440,000 people are employed in sport-related jobs, many of whom are marketers. 

A degree in Sports Management and Marketing will help you stand out as a true professional sports marketer, making you particularly attractive to employers in the sports and leisure industries. It will give you the knowledge and skills needed for a career in sports marketing. Course content

If your first degree is in a non-business subject you will study be required to complete the 'Fundamental Principles of Business' module.

Additional optional modules will be available from within the International Business Management degree programme.

Career opportunities

Relevant work experience is vital if you want a career in the sports business, as practical experience in the industry is required for many premium jobs.

London is home to many of the biggest brands in global sport, meaning that the opportunities for internships, placements and jobs in London are some of the best in Britain. We have close ties with many sporting organisations and regularly work with them to arrange student placements.

How the degree is taught

Teaching methods

As well as highly interactive lectures, you will be working in groups on case studies. In seminars you will practise the skills you need to be an effective marketing manager, often working with students on our other Master's programmes to give you the experience of working cross-functionally. 

You will be taught by a team that includes award-winning marketers, excellent lecturers, leading researchers and experienced professionals. You will learn using the latest digital resources and techniques.

Assessment methods

You will be assessed in a variety of ways throughout your degree to test knowledge, understanding and skills development.

The programme uses a broad range of assessments including business reports, essays, practical exercises, presentations, case studies and assessed blogs. Wherever possible, you will be assessed using digital methods and online feedback.

The UK Government has confirmed that EU applicants for 2019 remain eligible for 'home fee status' and can access financial support.

Alumni discount

A 20% tuition fee discount is available for our alumni (undergraduate and PGCE) planning to study this Master's degree. Those studying for a PGDip of PGCert are not eligible for the discount.
