To create a rich and varied research culture that supports student learning and is based around dedicated research centres which strive to achieve excellence in the generation of high quality research aligned to St Mary’s Vision 2025.

We will achieve our vision for research development through the following strategic aims and objectives:

Research Quality and Quantity

To actively enhance the quality and quantity of research across all core discipline areas, with activity focused in research centres of excellence.

Research Culture

To build a robust, inclusive and sustainable culture of research involving students and staff at all levels based on an active network of Research Centres and Groups, both internally and externally.

Research Funding

To optimise success in REF2014 and to increase the quantity and success of research funding applications.

Research Students

To attract increasing numbers of students and provide them with a high quality research degree programme to support their development, to achieve success in their degree and in their future career.

Staff Development and Recognition

To provide excellent staff development opportunities and support for research and scholarly activity.

External Engagement

To develop opportunities for increased engagement in collaborative and interdisciplinary research activity with external researchers and research centres.

Enterprise and Knowledge Exchange

To develop and promote opportunities for enterprise and knowledge exchange to enhance the research culture, generate income and enhance institutional reputation, aligned with the St Mary's Mission.

Research Governance and Esteem

To market our research activities fully in order to promote our excellent research practice and research degree opportunities.
