Philosophy Seminar: Can There Be an Account of Creativity?

A public seminar on creativity, hosted in conjunction with the Royal Institution of Philosophy, will be held on Wednesday 15th January 2014 at St Mary’s.

A public seminar on creativity, will be held on Wednesday 15th January 2014 at St Mary’s University College, Twickenham. The seminar is hosted by the Philosophy Programme, in conjunction with the Royal Institution of Philosophy. ‘Can There Be an Account of Creativity?,' led by Derek Matravers, Professor of Philosophy at the Open University, will be discussing that, “Creativity seems, essentially, bringing something out of nothing. Given this, it looks difficult to throw light on its nature. I shall argue that there is something to this claim and that the standard analysis of creativity is uninformative.” Prof Matravers’ knowledge of Philosophy spans over 20 years. He spent three years as a post-doctoral lecturer at Cambridge after attaining his PhD there in 1991, and then moved to The Open University in 1994. He has published extensively in aesthetics, as well as ethics and the philosophy of mind. The seminar is open to the public and will be held at the Senior Common Room at St Mary’s Strawberry Hill Campus from 5.15pm - 6.45pm, followed by a drinks reception.
