On Friday 27th September the Students’ Union at St Mary’s University College, Twickenham held a Futsal tournament to raise money for three longstanding children’s charities.
Futsal is an indoor variation of football, consisting of five players on each team and is designed to focus on players’ improvisation, creativity and technique. The event was organised by the new students’ Futsal Team, which was launched this term.
Competitors took part at the event from the Futsal team, as well as students and staff from the Physical Sports Education degree programme, raising money for the Emma’s Bubble Trust, Get Kids Going and Richmond Special Olympics charities.
AU President, Pietro Pallandino commented, “There was a great turnout on the evening and good to see both staff and students come together to support three great charities. Everyone enjoyed themselves and it was a fantastic way to give something back to the local community through sport. Futsal is a new sport here and it’s something that I’m looking to promote and grow in popularity. The PSE student team won on penalties against the staff in a very enjoyable game.”
