St Mary’s Philosophy Lecture Series Presents ‘Scientific Creativity'

As part of the successful Autumn Lecture Series at St Mary’s University College, Twickenham, the Philosophy Department are hosting their second instalment entitled ‘Scientific Creativity and The Rise of the Entreprenerds’ on Wednesday 20^th November. Organised in conjunction with the Royal Institute of Philosophy, the lecture will be delivered by Dr Michaela Kendall, Co-Founder Adelan and Honorary Senior Lecturer, School of Medicine, University of Southampton. The term “scientific creativity” is sometimes seen as contradictory. Science is believed to be based on rigor, detail and careful method, whilst creativity is seen as organic, more spontaneous, more beautiful. However this is only part of the story and belies the creativity used in scientific practice. Having worked internationally in science for over 20 years, Dr Kendall plans to share her unique view; suggesting that acknowledging and harnessing scientific creativity is crucial in solving pressing environmental problems today. In particular, she is interested in the role science has in creating new technology, lifestyles and wealth, and cites entreprenerds as one example of the power of scientific training to create change. The event is free and open to the public without registration. Lectures start at 5.15pm in the Senior Common Room and last for 50 minutes, with 40 minutes for questions.
