A business networking event to showcase student work placement opportunities was recently held by The Centre for Workplace Learning at St Mary’s University College in Twickenham.
As part of their degree programme, St Mary’s offers students the opportunity to undertake voluntary work placements with organisations in the area. This event, which was designed and run by final year undergraduate students, enabled employers to find out more about St Mary’s students, and about how the placement scheme can benefit their organisation.
Fiona Wilson from St Mary’s Centre for Workplace Learning commented, “Each year we run this event, which allows us to really showcase what St Mary’s can offer to both employers and students taking part in our work placement scheme.
“It also gives the students the chance to practice their networking skills, build contacts with local businesses and demonstrate their learning and experience.
“It was a very successful evening, with representatives from local charities, businesses and schools attending on the night and we hope that we can build on this success next year.”
Some of the feedback from the evening included:
“I was really impressed with the way students engaged in conversations with ease, asked questions and were interested in learning about business and opportunities. They came across as likeable, professional and highly motivated.”
“The students that I met are all a credit to you and the University College.”
“I was really impressed with the attitude and maturity the students showed.”
