The 3rd and 4th May saw some great performances from athletes of the Endurance Performance and Coaching Centre (EPACC) at St Mary’s University, Twickenham, as they took part in competitions held in the UK and the US.
Athletes from the Centre competed in the British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS) Championships with top places going to a number of EPACC athletes. Beth Potter won Gold in the women's 5000m race and Pippa Wingate won a Bronze medal in the women's shot put event. Pippa also came fourth in the women’s discus event, followed by Carla Letheby in fifth position.
First year Sport Science and Management Studies student Michael Callegari came second to earn a Silver medal in the men's 5000m competition.
Meanwhile, across the pond at the Payton Jordan Cardinal Invitational Meeting, Andy Vernon ran a personal best in the 5000m contest with a time of 13:11.50. This has put him in sixth place on the all-time British rankings, and within the qualifying time for both the Commonwealth Games and European Championships.
Adelle Tracey won her 800m race in a new personal best time of 2:02.49, which has currently put her on top of the British ranking for this year.
Emelia Gorecka also ran a personal best in the women's 5000m competition with a time of 15:07.45, which is also a qualifying time for both the Commonwealth Games and European Championships.
Of the weekends results, EPACC Coordinator and Performance Coach Craig Winrow said, “The accomplishments of our athletes are testament to the consistent effort and determination they put into each and every event they compete in.”
