A new Second Language Acquisition collaborative research group has launched its inaugural colloquium at St Mary’s University, Twickenham. The London Second Language Acquisition Research Forum (L-SLARF) was recently formed by academics from St Mary’s University, Kings College London, the Institute of Education, the University of Greenwich and the University of Reading as a way to share and develop research in the field of cognitive and task-based approaches to second language acquisition. The inaugural colloquium, which offered delegates the opportunity to participate in face-to-face discussions into the latest work of this burgeoning research area, attracted more than 40 delegates including MA and PhD students, language teachers, and leading academics. Prof Pauline Foster, Professor in English and Applied Linguistics at St Mary’s who hosted the event said, “This was a really enjoyable day, with excellent presentations and discussions. The enthusiastic feedback suggests there is scope here for holding such a colloquium annually.” The next L-SLARF event, a conference for PhD students, is planned for October this year.
