St Mary’s University College, Twickenham donated a football pitch in December to help a member of the local community raise money for a charity.
The facilities were donated to support local resident Denny Morgan, who set up a football match to raise funds for Shooting Star CHASE Children’s Hospice.
Denny decided to set up the charity game as a way to help his local community. He said, “I knew Shooting Star CHASE is completely self-funded and has recently been trying to raise money in and around the local area. I had a two week gap before I started a new job, so I thought I would do something productive with my time and decided to get all my friends together for a football match. Being for a good cause, they all jumped at the opportunity to have a good match together and raise money for their local charity.”
A total of £605.45 was raised, with contributions still coming in, and associates of the charity came to show their support at the match.
Tish Jayanetti, Sports Facilities Manager at St Mary’s, said, “St Mary’s charitable work is at the heart of the institution’s core values and as Shooting Star CHASE is a great organisation that directly helps many children and their families, we were keen to provide our support. It was a pleasure to work with Denny to run the event in aid of his chosen charity and an excellent opportunity to get involved to raise money through sport. Local charities play a vital part in supporting our community and can struggle to generate funds to do so; therefore it’s important that we assist them to promote the good work they do.”
