Former 10,000m world record holder Dave Bedford, who is Honorary Fellow at St Mary’s University College, Twickenham is to receive an OBE in the 2014 New Year’s Honours.
Having spent 10 years as the Virgin London Marathon Race Director from 2002 to 2012, Dave is currently the Elite Athlete Co-ordinator and works closely with St Mary’s Endurance, Performance and Coaching Centre (EPACC), which is supported by the London Marathon.
Dave was an active runner for 10 years, from 1964 to 1974, and began working for the London Marathon in 1986. He will be awarded an OBE (Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire) for his services to British Athletics.
Dave was one of the first athletes to be inducted into the St Mary’s Hall of Fame for Sport in 2011 during the opening of the new £8.5 million Sports Centre, alongside Olympic cyclist and rower Rebecca Romero.
