The Students’ Union at St Mary’s University, Twickenham has announced the results of its 2014 elections, with the winners forming the Committee for the 2014/15 academic year.
Ryan Jones will take over from Aedan McDonagh as President of the Students’ Union, while Josh Moss has been elected Athletics Union President and will be replacing Pietro Palladino.
Ryan, who has studied at St Mary’s for three years, will be aiming to make the University a closer community by introducing an open door policy to the Students’ Union among other initiatives. Josh, current president of St Mary’s Athletics Club, believed that his experience on SU events committees and as a club president left him well-equipped to take on responsibilities as head of the Athletics Union.
Further roles within the Students’ Union will be taken up by Sarah Oglio, James Turnbull and Rudra Dhakal, who will become the Vice-President for Communications, Vice-President for Entertainments and Vice-President for Welfare respectively.
Campaigning for the elections took place during the week of Monday 24th – Friday 28th February, with voting taking place on Friday, and resulted in the highest ever turnout for a Students’ Union election with over 1,300 votes being cast.
