The Sainsbury's British Athletics Championships, which took place in Birmingham from 27th to 29th June, saw athletes from the Endurance, Performance and Coaching Centre (EPACC) at St Mary’s University, Twickenham gain places in the European Athletics Championships.
Charlie Grice won the men’s 1,500m race with top spots also taken by Zane Duquemin in the Discus event and Emelia Gorecka in the women's 5,000m run. Jo Pavey followed her in second position and both women secured a place in the upcoming European Athletics Championships after running the qualifying time.
Charlie, who is a Sport Science and Management Studies student at St Mary’s, has also qualified to compete in the Championships, which takes place in Zurich from Tuesday 12th July. They will be joining other EPACC athletes who have qualified for the event, including Andy Vernon.
There were great results from other EPACC athletes with Andrew Osagie, who came third in the men’s 800m event and Richard Charles, competing in his first senior championship, finishing in fourth place.
Lennie Waite secured second place in the 3,000m steeplechase event while Adelle Tracey, running in her first championship, came in fifth place in the women’s 800m race. Zane Duquemin also performed well in the Shot Put event, coming in at second place.
EPACC Co-ordinator Craig Winrow commented, “We’re proud to see our athletes delivering great results once again.”
The European Athletics Championships will be broadcasted on BBC One and British Eurosport.
