Second Year MA Bioethics and Medical Law student at St Mary’s University, Twickenham, Rebecca Brione has been awarded a Santander Universities Ethics and Society Scholarship from Fordham University in New York City.
The scholarship is for an intensive ethics workshop entitled Theories and Applications in Contemporary Ethics in May 2015, and will cover Rebecca’s tuition and travel and accommodation costs.
To apply for the scholarship, Rebecca submitted a statement that outlined what she would bring to the course discussions, drawing on her professional and academic experience, and explained how it would support her future academic career.
Speaking of the award Rebecca said, "I am thrilled to have won a Santander Universities/Fordham Ethics and Society Scholarship to study at Fordham University, New York City, in May. This is a hugely exciting opportunity to examine how moral theory is applied to contemporary social issues, drawing on a wide range of academic disciplines.”
“I am particularly looking forward to learning from the other course participants - previous scholarship recipients have included students from the Republic of Ireland, Brazil and Nigeria - and seeing how our range of backgrounds shapes our views and assumptions. I'm very grateful to have this opportunity to travel and learn, and as a side benefit, to get to spend some time in New York City!"
In March, Rebecca was also awarded a Fran Trust grant. This award allowed her to present a paper at the British Medical Association Forensic Medicine Conference on Medical Ethics and the Criminal Justice System.
