Endurance Performance and Coaching Centre (EPACC) Athlete and Research Associate at St Mary’s University, Twickenham Georgie Bruinvels won the Manchester Marathon on Sunday 19th April.
Georgie completed the race, which was her first ever marathon in 2:37:16, almost seven minutes ahead of the second place finisher. This result makes her the fastest British female marathon runner of 2015.
Speaking after her victory Georgie said, “The race was good! It was a new experience for me as I haven't run a marathon before and I wasn't really sure what to expect. But I really enjoyed the experience and the atmosphere at the event was brilliant.”
Georgie is currently studying for her PhD at UCL and is a research associate in the School of Sport, Health and Applied Science (SHAS) at St Mary's. Her research exploring the effects of the menstrual cycle on training and performance is currently seeking support through crowd funding website hubbub.
Georgie will also be at the London Marathon Expo from Wednesday 22nd to Saturday 25th April undertaking questionnaire research, and hopes to speak with as many female athletes as possible.
