The Students’ Union at St Mary’s University, Twickenham held its annual Sports and Societies Awards Dinner on 27th March at Kempton Park.
The annual event marks the end of the sporting season at St Mary’s and celebrates the students’ achievements and successes over the past year. Over 300 students attended this year’s event, making it the biggest in the University’s history.
The evening began with dinner after which the awards ceremony began with a welcome from the AU President Josh Moss and an address from St Mary’s Vice-Chancellor Francis Campbell.
Awards were presented in a variety of categories including Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year, President of the Year, and the coveted Team of the Year, which was shared between the Men’s and Women’s 1st Football Teams, amongst many others.
This year’s award winners are:

Sportswoman of the Year - Sarah Astin
Sportsman of the Year - Ben Coldray
Coach of the Year - James Giblin
President of the Year - Mike Kiley
Team of the Year - Ladies Football 1st and Men’s Football 1st
Club of the Year - Rugby League
Society of the Year - Catholic Society
Outstanding Contribution to Sport - Lucie Whelan
Director of Sport Andrew Reid Smith said that, “St Mary’s sports clubs and societies are a rich part of the student experience. The students put a great deal into this and the awards dinner was a great way to share and celebrate their achievements.”
AU President Josh Moss commented that, “The Sports and Societies Dinner is a great occasion that allows us to celebrate the great successes of the year. It was fantastic to see so many students celebrating together for what has been an incredible year for sport at St Mary’s.”
