Athletes in the Endurance Performance and Coaching Centre (EPACC) at St Mary’s University, Twickenham have seen a number of successes in recent competitions.
At the BUCS Outdoor Track and Field Championships held in Bedford, 15 athletes competed in a number of disciplines. Stand out performances from the championships came from Jacob Allen who finished second in the Men’s 5000m and Joshua Street who finished third in the Men’s 200M. Amy Griffiths, Sean Molloy and Tom Hook also finished fourth in their respective competitions.
Elsewhere at the Payton Jordan Invitational competition in California, five athletes competed with four achieving personal bests (PBs). Beth Potter, who recently achieved an Olympic qualifying time, ran a PB in the women’s 5000m of 15:28.32, achieving the qualification time for the European Athletics Championships, Louise Small also achieved a PB of 16:00.95 in the same race. Emily Hosker-Thornhill also achieved a PB of 4:19.88 in the women’s 1500m and Luke Caldwell competed in the men’s 10,000m, finishing in a time of 25:45.82. There was also a superb performance from Rob Mullet in the 3,000m steeplechase, who was only 0.63 off the Olympic qualifying standard running 8:30.63.
EPACC Coordinator Craig Winrow said, “The depth of talent we have within the EPACC is fantastic and this has been shown in the results so far this year. It’s great to see so many athletes achieving personal best this early on in the season and with both Rio 2016 and European Championships falling in the same year it is an exciting time ahead for our EPACC athletes.”
