Team Wiggins Road Riders, some of Britain’s leading young cyclists, visited St Mary’s University, Twickenham at the start of March for a day of training, testing and learning in the University’s world class facilities.
Led by alumnus and sports nutritionist for Team Wiggins David Dunne, the day began with a Strength and Conditioning coaching session in the Performance Education Centre, the University’s Strength and Conditioning Lab. The cyclists also undertook performance testing with Health and Exercise Science lecturer Paul Hough in St Mary’s Sports Performance Services.
After lunch, the cyclists visited the University’s recently opened nutrition labs for a Sports Nutrition workshop, learning about using food for fuel and getting the most out of what they eat in training and competitions.
Speaking during the visit David Dunne said, “As an alumnus, it’s great to come back to the University in my professional capacity and share the space with the athletes I work with. Team Wiggins are a leading force in the world of competitive cycling and days like today at St Mary’s will help give our young cyclists the competitive edge.”
