St Mary’s Sports Scholars Enjoy Successful Weekend

Sports Scholars and Endurance Performance and Coaching Centre (EPACC) athletes at St Mary’s University, Twickenham enjoyed a successful weekend with four winning titles and three setting personal bests (PBs). 

Third year student Lotte Clap captained Saracens Women to the inaugural Premier 15s title with a 24-20 win over Harlequins Ladies in the final. Lotte scored a try in the victory which also featured second year Strength and Conditioning BSc student, and fellow scholar, Emma Uren, who was recently named captain of England Women U20s, and St Mary’s alumna Lauren Cattell.

Elsewhere, scholar Emily Hosker-Thornhill followed up February’s Gold medal in the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) Indoors 3000m with another first place in the BUCS 10,000m Championships in Loughborough on Saturday, where she ran a PB of 35:34.47. This impressive performance came just 24 hours after a second place finish for Emily in the Women’s English 5k Road Championships in Cheshire.

There was also a second place finish for St Mary’s in the Men’s English 5k Road Championships, with scholar Emile Cairess completing his run in 14:12 and being the first U21 to cross the line.

Two EPACC athletes also posted PBs in the BUCS 10,000m Championships with Corey De’Ath posting a time of 30:32.81 to finish eighth and Sam Johnson running in 31:37.26 to come in 11^th.
