St Mary’s University, London recently hosted a coach development workshop on campus in partnership with the Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme (TASS) and Sport England.

In attendance were coaches from schools, colleges, universities, sports clubs, and the local coaching community.

The core objective of the workshop was to discuss and develop practical coaching strategies, facilitate peer problem-solving, develop connections across the local sport landscape, and provide access to coaching expertise.

This was the first of a series of workshops to be hosted between St Mary’s University, TASS and Sport England. The workshops are designed to build off each other across the year and to provide tailored coach development based around individual needs.

This inaugural session focused on networking, needs analysis, problem solving, sharing of ideas, and best practices. The workshop concluded with an inspirational keynote address from Endurance Performance Centre Assistant Performance Coach, Fiona Ford.

Fiona is a former professional triathlete and experienced high-performance coach. Following a serious cycling accident, she returned to competition to achieve a podium finish at the 2016 Ironman World Championships. She has over 15 years of coaching experience.

The next coaching workshop will take place on the St Mary’s University campus in February 2027.
