To celebrate World Mental Health Day on Thursday 10th October, St Mary’s University College, Twickenham is hosting a week of events to raise awareness amongst the St Mary’s community.
As part of St Mary’s ongoing commitment to supporting students throughout their student experience, the Students’ Union in collaboration with Chaplaincy Centre and Student Services are hosting a range of events and activities throughout the week to highlight the importance of good mental health. The slogan “what makes you happy” is the main theme for the week, which will also include charity stalls, workshops, film viewings, quizzes and even free hugs!
The Mental Health Foundation (MHF) aims to tackle problems of loneliness, isolation, dementia and depression, focusing on improving the lives of older people who experience these difficulties. But to also promote the well-being of people in their early life, emphasising the enormous potential that this phase can have in terms of enjoying a full and active future.
Students’ Union President, Aedan McDonagh, commented, “It’s going to be a fantastic week and hopefully by the end of the campaign, the St Mary’s community will be more aware of the effects of poor mental health and how to access the relevant support.”
