Pedagogical Debates in Physical Education (Core)

This module provides an insight into contemporary debates on the place and purpose of Physical Education (PE) in the wider school curriculum. It explores how different claims regarding the purpose of PE influence pedagogical practice in areas such as curriculum design, pedagogical content and instructional models and techniques.

It aims to provide you with the tools to analyse contemporary PE practices from both a philosophical and applied perspective.

• Research Design Core

Research Design (Core)

This module prepares you to design a small-scale practitioner research enquiry to be reported on in the dissertation. It enables you to develop your understanding of epistemological enquiry and facilitate their acquisition of a systematic and coherent body of knowledge relating to research.

You will have the opportunity to develop your understanding of the underlying principles and concepts of planning and designing research studies, research techniques, methods of data analysis, ethical considerations in research and skills in presenting research findings.

• Reflective Practice and Evidence-based Pedagogy in Physical Education Core

Reflective Practice and Evidence-based Pedagogy in Physical Education (Core)

This module provides you with the opportunity to explore contemporary pedagogical models in sport and evidence-based practice.

It will present you with the stimulus to explore how you adapt your short and medium-term planning, assessment of learning and instructional techniques appropriately for the cultural norms, learners and spaces in which educate.

• Change Agency and Strategy: From Research to Practice Core

Change Agency and Strategy: From Research to Practice (Core)

This module explores change theory which is applied to the formulation and proposal of evidence-informed innovation resulting from a small-scale practitioner research enquiry, thus aligning your research findings with policy outcomes.

• Academic Paper and Conference Presentation Core

Academic Paper and Conference Presentation (Core)

This module focuses on the evaluation of the research proposed in the 'Research Design' module and the writing of the dissertation.

It enables you to evaluate a small-scale research enquiry into a contemporary pedagogical issue within your professional practice and to communicate new knowledge through an academic paper of between 10,000 to 12,000 words.

In this module, you will explain your claims to new knowledge relating to researching and reporting on findings in the area of interest.
