Biography

As director of Catholic Mission and professor of finance, public policy, and ethics, Philip works to embed the mission of the University through its teaching and research and promotes engagement with a wide range of organisations which can work with St Mary’s University in contributing to promoting the common good of society and to Catholic public life.

He teaches and researches in fields related to economics, political economy, business ethics, and Catholic social teaching. He also works for the Catholic Bishops' Conference of England and Wales as Director of Policy and Research. He sits on the Shadow Monetary Policy Committee.

Research profile

Philip is currently researching Catholic social teaching and ethical behaviour in business; the development of private regulatory institutions within investment markets; property rights and environmental protection; and government debt and Catholic social thought. Philip runs www.catholicsocialthought.org.uk, a Templeton World Charity Foundation funded project on Catholic social thought and teaching and 21st century challenges.
He is also available to supervise PhD students in these and potentially other areas.
