Facilities On-Campus and in Local Area

At St Mary's there is a wide range of facilities and amenities to cater for students needs and keep you occupied during your time here. St Mary's offers you a wide range of facilities, a pleasant learning environment, and a great social life in a diverse and safe community, all set with a beautiful self-contained campus.

With 6,000 students studying here it's easy to make friends and feel at home.

Students' Union

The Students’ Union building has a fully licensed bar with screens for viewing sporting events. There are a number of regular events here at St Mary's including: the Welcome Fortnight, Summer Ball and the SIMMStock Festival.

The Students Union is also home to the SU Shop where stationery, cards, general household items and University merchandise can be purchased in a space where there is room to chill.

Dolce Vita Café

A 200 seat café with a terrace overlooking the grounds and athletics track, provides space to relax and meet friends. The café sells a wide range of fresh sandwiches, cakes, hot and cold snacks along with tea, coffee and cold drinks.

The Ref

The Refectory is conveniently located at the centre of the campus. It is open seven days a week during term-time for breakfast, lunch and dinner.  It’s a social eating space used by students and staff alike.

Vending Machines

There are soft drink vending machines in both reception areas of De Marillac Hall and snack (chocolates, sweets and crisps) and soft drink vending machines in the Shannon Corridor adjacent to the refectory.


It is a five minute walk to the shops, chemists and Sub-Post Office in Tower Road. There are a few other local shops on Waldegrave Road. Larger shops and supermarkets in Twickenham or Teddington are a 10-15 minute walk away.

Bars and Restaurants

There are many local bars, restaurants, cafés and fast food outlets within walking distance.


Strawberry Hill station to London Waterloo is about a 30 minute journey. Buses to Teddington, Twickenham and Richmond pass the University. Student discount cards are available from the Students’ Union once students are registered with St Mary's.
