The London Marathon Young Athlete Camp has been running successfully at St Mary’s for a number of years. 80 of Britain’s top young distance runners are selected to attend the five day residential training and educational camp, which offers an exciting and inspirational experience for athletes and coaches alike.
The young athletes benefit from talks with Elite athletes that in recent years have included Sir Mo Farah, Leonel Manzano, Andrew Osagie, Jake Wightman and Adelle Tracey covering a range of topics and highlighting their progression to becoming world-class athletes.
As well as practical sessions covering areas such as mixed pace training, hurdle drills and track sessions the athletes participate in workshops that look at physiological assessment, lifestyle, injury prevention and psychological interventions.
Competitions such as the London Mini Marathon, Westminster Mile, English Schools Cross Country Championships, English Schools T&F Championships, notable XC and track performances are used to identify athletes to invite to attend the London Marathon Young Athlete Camp.
The camp is always a great success, benefitting from the input that all the athletes and coaches provide. The St Mary’s campus provides a unique learning experience at one of the world’s leading endurance environments.
